The NAIT men's and women's soccer team combined to defeat the Augustana Vikings 23-0 on Sunday.
EDMONTON, ALTA - The NAIT Ooks women's and men's soccer teams combined to blank the Augustana Vikings 23-0 on Sunday afternoon at the NAIT soccer field. The women won 8-0, while the men won 15-0, which broke the ACAC record of 12 for most goals in a single game.
The day began with players, coaches, staff, and parents shoveling the field in order have their first home game of the season. Once the snow was cleared the women were set to take the field. Kaily Mohn struck quickly in the first half putting the Ooks up early. Kennedy Hennig followed up with two goals of her own, and then Mohn would find the back of the net again to put the NAIT up 4-0 at halftime.
Early in the second half Kennedy Hennig was right back at it completing the hat trick putting her team up 5-0. It was all Ooks from there, as Yumi Ishimura and Katelyn Grado both added a goal. Kaily Mohn scored the eighth and final goal completing her hat-trick. NAIT outshot Augustana 37-2.
The men's game would have a similar tune. The Ooks struck early as David Doe opened up the scoring 2 minutes into the game. Matthew Maclean, Cristian Lima and Taran Kumar would all add early goals of their own. Chris Gakona then scored back to back goals, while Doe followed up with another goal of his own. NAIT headed into halftime with a commanding 8-0 lead.
Brayden Miller opened up the scoring for the Ooks in the second half scoring a pair of goals. Matthew Zima, Ladji Toure both added goals for NAIT, while David Doe added his third of the game completing the hat-trick. Ladji Toure added one more goal, while Jayden Hwang added another pair to put the Ooks up 15-0, which would end up being the final score. Shots were 28-0 in favour of NAIT. With the men's 15 goals, they broke the ACAC record for most goals in a single game, which was previously 12.
The Ooks will now play the Concordia Thunder Wednesday night at Emerald Hill Sports Pavillion in Sherwood Park at (time TBD). They will then travel to Camrose to take on the Augustana Vikings again on September 29th.
