What a weekend it was for our NAIT curling team as they wrapped up their 2021-22 season by competing in the ACAC Curling Championships hosted in Camrose, AB.
All three teams medaled this past weekend, with the men's and women's earning bronze, and the mixed bringing home silver.
Karynn Flory, NAIT's first year coach, had this to say about her teams performance, "After a rocky start in our first two bonspiels, the men's team rallied together at the championships, winning two out of their four games and clinching a spot in the Bronze medal game. The team was relentless on their way to a commanding victory against SAIT (7-3) despite having to make some last minute line up adjustments due to an injury. On the women's side, Kristina Allen stayed cool and composed while she skipped our ladies team straight into the Bronze medal game, where they also took command and never looked back on their way to victory, defeating Lakeland 8-3. The mixed team consisted of four rookies to the ACAC lead by their stoic skip; Tyler Brodt, who brought the team quickly together to go 3-1 in the first two bonspiels, eventually leading to a silver medal at the championships."
Karynn was grateful for her five returning student-athletes who took on leadership roles this season to not only support the new student-athletes, but herself included. In addition, first year assistant coach; Nigel Webber, provided a calm and light demeanour to the program to go along with his extensive curling knowledge. Both coaches are proud of everything their team was able to accomplish this season and are already looking ahead to next.
This season there will not be a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Curling National Championships.
