The NAIT Ooks are thrilled to announce Adika Peter-McNeilly's appointment as the new head coach of the men's basketball team.
With a dynamic background as both a seasoned professional player and a passionate coach, Peter-McNeilly brings a unique blend of experience and enthusiasm to the program.
"I am excited for the upcoming season as the new head coach of the NAIT Ooks. We have a wonderful group of student-athletes here willing to get better every single day," said Peter-McNeilly.
Jordan Richey, the Director of Athletics & Recreation at NAIT, shared his excitement about Peter-McNeilly's appointment. "Adika has had a tremendous career playing professional basketball and is now ready to make the transition to coaching," Richey remarked. "His belief on what makes a successful program aligns nicely with our previous two head coaches, which should lead to a smooth transition."
Peter-McNeilly's journey in basketball is one marked by achievements and dedication. From his early days playing club basketball to representing Canada on the international stage, he has always been driven by a deep love for the game. His success as a player is evident in his impressive stats and accolades, including being named the 2021 CEBL Sixth Man of the Year and winning championships with the Edmonton Stingers.
Peter-McNeilly's ability to relate to players on a personal level, coupled with his extensive playing experience, positions him as a catalyst for the team's growth and success. "Everything I've learned from being a 7-year professional athlete and my career at TMU in Toronto will be passed down to our student-athletes," he noted. "I'm most looking forward to getting in the gym, reconnecting with the returning players, and welcoming new faces as we continue to build on NAIT Athletics' culture of excellence."
Although Peter-McNeilly is a young coach, Richey is confident in his ability to fill the role. "Despite not having a lot of coaching experience, Adika's demeanor, hard work, determination, and willingness to learn are what led to NAIT Athletics giving him this opportunity to lead our men's basketball program next season," said Richey.
With Adika Peter-McNeilly at the helm, the NAIT Ooks men's basketball team is poised for an exciting journey ahead. Prospective student-athletes and fans are encouraged to follow the team on social media for updates and to support the Ooks as they strive for greatness on and off the court.
