EDMONTON, Alta. – Roymond Kim was named ACAC Badminton Male Player of the Year on Saturday evening at the ACAC Badminton All-Conference Banquet.
Roymond dominated ACAC, regular-season competition, going undefeated in both men's doubles and men's singles and winning five events through three tournaments. His solid performance is a large reason for the NAIT Ooks' success. After sitting in second place all year, Kim and the Ooks had a strong showing in the final tournament of the year to move into a tie for first with the Concordia Thunder in the ACAC season standings. Roymond also led NAIT to an ACAC Badminton Team Championship earlier in the day.
"He [Roymond] is the most valuable student-athlete on our team this year. He shows superior skill and competitiveness while still being able to maintain respect for his coaches and keep up with his academic success. Overall, one of the most well-rounded players this team has seen," said Ooks' head coach Sinead Cheah.
Eyota Kwan, Tyler Walsh, Smit Patel, and Roymond Kim were named to their respective ACAC All-Conference teams as well during the banquet.
The NAIT Ooks will now compete in the individual competition tomorrow in the NAIT Gymnasium.
