Edmonton, Alta – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that NAIT Ooks curling coach Jules Owchar has been selected as the 2018 ACAC Coach of the Year.
All three Ooks curling teams qualified for the ACAC championships this season. NAIT's mixed team finished the regular season in 1st place with an 8-2 record. The women's team enter the championship in 2nd place after posting a 9-3 record while the men's team also qualified for the ACAC championships after finishing 4th with a 5-5 record.
Jules is a certified Level 3 NCCP Coach who began his career at NAIT as a physical education instructor in 1969. Throughout his career, he has coached NAIT curling teams to 37 ACAC championships.
NAIT Athletics Manager Jordan Richey had this to say about the legendary curling head coach.
"There is not much to say about Jules that has not already been said. His track record and amazing successes speak for themselves. Despite his legendary status Jules continues to devote his time and knowledge to our student-athletes. His passion for the sport is evident with every conversation he has. NAIT is extremely grateful to have Jules on staff and would like to congratulate him and long-time assistant coach Karl Mysiuk on this tremendous honour."
Jules will lead the NAIT Ooks this weekend at the 2018 ACAC curling conference championships hosted at the University of Alberta Augustana in Camrose, AB. The top three finishers in the men's and women's events move on to the CCAA National Championships held March 24-27 in Leduc, AB. Complete schedule and results can be found on the ACAC website.
