The NAIT Ooks were able to win two Bronze medals at the CCAA Curling Championships, with both their men’s and women’s team finishing third. Veteran head coach Jules Owchar was named also Canada Curling Coach of the Year.
Leduc, Alta. - On Wednesday afternoon the NAIT Ooks earned Bronze in both men's and women's curling at the CCAA Championships at the Leduc Recreation Center.
The men battled through round robin play with a 4-3 record, but then dropped the semifinal match to the Fanshawe Falcons. In a huge rebound performance, the team bounced back with a convincing 8-4 win over the Augustana Vikings to earn CCAA Bronze.
The women had a similar path going through round robin play with a 4-3 record only to fall just short of the Camosun Chargers in the semifinal. The women then faced their Edmonton rival MacEwan Griffins where they were able to make some great shots late to take the match 8-6 earning a Bronze medal.
To top off the successful weekend longtime head coach Jules Owchar was named Canada Female Curling Coach of the Year. Jonah Tobinski was also awarded the CCAA Men's Fair Play Award.
