EDMONTON, Alta. – In what looked like a surefire loss, the NAIT Ooks battled back to scare the first place Keyano Huskies on Friday night at NAIT gymnasium, taking the lead in the fourth quarter after being down by as many as twenty-six.
A slow start that included a lot of missed shots, the Ooks fell behind big early and looked to be in trouble heading into halftime with a large deficit to overcome to the Huskies, the first-place team in the ACAC north division.
A strong third quarter from Hugo Cluysen kickstarted a comeback that saw the NAIT Ooks begin to chip away at the eighteen-point halftime deficit and head into the fourth quarter only down six.
The fourth quarter saw multiple lead changes as the Ooks officially erased the deficit and at times had Keyano on the ropes. ACAC leading scorer Sean-Michael Clancey had a big second half to finish with a game high thirty-seven points, but it was ultimately not enough as his attempts to take the lead with only seconds left and send the game into overtime both came up short.
The loss dropped NAIT to 6-3 at home on the season.
