EDMONTON, Alta. - The NAIT Ooks men's hockey team held off the Briercrest Clippers late to take a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon in the NAIT Arena.
The Ooks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Jared Legien blew a wrist shot by Clippers' goaltender Dan Dekoning 56 seconds into the game. The visitors would later tie it up on the powerplay as Trey Doell sent a point shot through traffic beating a screened Brendan Jensen.
In the second period, NAIT struck again in the first minute of play, this time it was ACAC leading scorer Jake Mykitiuk at the 45-second mark, giving the Ooks a 2-1 lead. Jordan Davies opened the scoring in the third period this time 1:44 into the frame to put the Ooks up 3-1. The Clippers would push back late as Caleb Grandfield's shot beat Jensen, but that would be all. The NAIT Ooks would take a 3-2 victory, sweeping the weekend series.
The story in this one was Dan Deckoning, who made the score look like the game was closer than it was. The Ooks registered 55 shots on net to the Clippers' 23. Dekoning kept the Clippers in it, making 52 saves.
