The NAIT Ooks kickoff their season this weekend in Ft.McMurray.
The NAIT Ooks men's soccer team, led by Coach Charles O'Toole is getting set for another season of ACAC competition. They will look to build on their success from 2017-2018.
Last season the team finished second in ACAC North league play with an 8-1-1 record. At the ACAC Championship, they earned silver after falling to the #1 seed Keyano Huskies 1-0 in gale forces winds. They earned a birth to the CCAA National Championship where they fell just short of the eventual champions, VIU. 2017-2018 individual achievements included Oscar Miranda being named ACAC Rookie of the Year and CCAA All-Star. Ali Musse, Oscar Miranda, Justin Marler, Armando Garcia, and Zach Kaiser all earned ACAC All-Conference recognition. Coach Charles O'Toole was pleased with the team's performance, "In what was essentially a rebuilding year, we set a strong foundation on which to grow and improve the men's soccer program."
Having added some very talented players this season and combining them with the experienced returnees, the NAIT Ooks are looking forward to the season. They are once again setting their sights on returning to the National Championships and looking to build on achieving that goal on a game by game basis. The team will be tested early, as they face the two-time defending ACAC Champion Keyano Huskies in the first weekend. "We want to continue on our path to improve and develop our program and our talented young student-athletes. We look to improve them both on and off the pitch, which will allow them to be successful with whichever path they choose as a career and in soccer," said O'Toole
The NAIT Ooks men's soccer team is traveling to Ft.McMurray today where they will take on the Keyano Huskies Sept.8th and 9th. The home opener for the Ooks is on September 16 at 2 pm where they will face the GPRC Wolves.
