The NAIT Ooks men’s soccer team defeated the St.Thomas University Tommies 7-0 in quarter-final action of the 2018 CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship.
CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The NAIT Ooks men's soccer team defeated the St.Thomas University Tommies 7-0 in quarter-final action of the 2018 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
The Ooks came out firing as Abraham Dukuly scored the first goal of the tournament in the 8th minute of the opening game. Matt Zima followed up with a goal two minutes later to give NAIT a 2-0 lead. Cristian Lima would score in the 29th minute, while Dukuly potted his second of the game to give the high flying Ooks a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, NAIT would pick up where they left off, with early goals from David Doe and Cristian Lima who scored his second of the game. Joseph Galvez would add one more goal for the Ooks to give them a 7-0 victory punching their ticket to the semi-finals.
"We had a good start, the boys have adjusted well to the time change, they stuck to the game plan and executed on their chances when they became available," said coach Charles O'Toole.
The Ooks will now face the Humber Hawks who defeated the Langara Falcons 2-1 in penalty kicks. The Hawks enter the tournament as the OCAA Champions after claiming their seventh conference title in nine years by defeating the Sheridan Bruins. The Hawks finished the regular season atop the OCAA with a 7-1-2 record.
When asked about Humber O'Toole said: "They are very strong. They are well organized, have a deep bench and a lot of talented players, including some from TFC Academy. We know as the tournament progresses it's only going to get harder, but I think we are prepared."
Kickoff for NAIT's semi-final match against the Hawks will be at 3:00 PM AST tomorrow. The winner will head to the CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship final which will take place on Saturday, November 10th.
