The NAIT Ooks women’s basketball team fell to the Olds Collge Broncos 55-46 in the quarter-finals of the 2019 ACAC Women’s Basketball Championship.
FT.MCMURRAY, ALTA. – The NAIT Ooks women's basketball team fell to the Olds Collge Broncos 55-46 in the quarter-finals of the 2019 ACAC Women's Basketball Championship.
The Ooks trailed early but would battle back to find themselves down 12-10 after the opening quarter. NAIT controlled the play for the most part, out-chancing the Broncos. The Ooks just couldn't convert missing several open chances.
In the second quarter player of the year, Brittney Thibeaux came alive after being held scoreless NAIT in the first quarter. Thibeaux put up 10 of the Broncos 16 points in the second frame to put her team up by 4 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Ooks would battle back, taking their first lead of the game. In the end, it was the Broncos and Thibeaux who would come out on top pulling away in the fourth quarter to take the game 55-46.
All in all the Ooks played good defense and for the most part outplayed Olds, however, they were unable to capitalize on many chances shooting just 23%. Combine that with some very impressive clutch baskets from the player of the year on the other side and the Broncos came out victorious.
NAIT will now play the St.Marys Lightning tomorrow at 1:00 pm in the consolation semifinal.
