The NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) Ooks women's basketball team tipped off against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Friday night. Both teams were looking for their first win of the season. The Ooks take the win 71-44.
The first quarter was close between the Ooks and the Rattlers. The Ooks scored the first points of the game with number six, Payton Neilson, scoring after making both foul shots. The game was a tight one as the play went back and forth.
After the first quarter, the Ooks led 12-8.
In the second quarter, the Ooks looked to extend their lead over the Rattlers. The second quarter was physical, as both teams were in foul trouble. The Ooks and the Rattlers put on a lot of defensive pressure causing many turnovers.
At halftime, the Ooks extended their lead from four points to fifteen, 31-16.
In the third quarter, the Rattlers looked to take their own lead. However, the Ooks were determined not to let that happen as they extended their lead to twenty points over the Rattlers. The Rattlers slowly chipped away to take the twenty-point lead to only sixteen at one point.
The Ooks continued their lead over the Rattlers, 51-33.
In the fourth quarter, the Ooks and Rattlers continued fighting on both sides of the court. The Rattlers' number six, Kristie Johnstone, made a jump shot to beat the 24-second clock. The Rattlers defeated the Ooks' full-court press to score an easy basket. The Ooks' full-court press worked several times, creating chances for uncontested lay-ups. The Ooks extend their lead even further over the Rustlers.
The Ooks won the game 71-44.
The players of the game were number seven, Ellie Wilde, from the NAIT Ooks and number twenty-two, Hailey Hoffart, from the Medicine Hat Rattlers.
