The NAIT Ooks women's basketball team tipped off against the Keyano Huskies in their first game of the weekend Friday night in the NAIT Gymnasium. After a fast-paced game, the Huskies took the win 71-52.
The Ooks scored the first points of the game, with number eight, Lucy Wilde, scoring from the 3-point line. The Huskies didn't allow the Ooks to hold the lead long, as they tied the game up at six points each. The score kept close throughout the quarter, with both teams playing well offensively and defensively. The Huskies gain a slight lead at the end of the quarter.
After the first quarter, the Huskies lead 17-15.
In the second quarter, the close battle continued between the Huskies and Ooks. The Ooks reclaimed the lead with six minutes left in the first half, but the Huskies quickly tied it back up. Ooks number ten, Elizabeth Salcedo, scored a three-point basket, and the Huskies number twenty-two, Kaylynn Tucker, scored a three-pointer to keep the game even. The Huskies again claimed the lead after their full-court press created many turnovers, resulting in offensive opportunities.
At halftime, the Huskies lead 41-30 against the Ooks.
At the start of the second half, the Ooks looked to close the gap. The Huskies weren't going to make it easy for them as number six, Zera Lynn Panesa, made a three-point shot. The Huskies' strong defence did not give the Ooks' offence many opportunities to score. The Huskies offence also had a solid quarter, scoring fifteen points.
After the third quarter, the Huskies lead 56-38.
During the fourth quarter, the Ooks looked to tighten up the score. The Ooks did just that as the defensive pressure on the Huskies' offence increased, and the Ooks' offence worked hard to put points up on the board. The Huskies did not let go of their lead.
The Huskies won the game 71-52.
The players of the game were number eight, Lucy Wilde, from the Ooks and number ten, Joy Victor, from the Huskies.
