On Friday night, the NAIT Ooks tipped off against the visiting Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at the NAIT gymnasium. The Queens won the game 75-53 over the Ooks.
In the first quarter, the Queens took the lead with great drives from number six, Amy Szymanek and four, Sadie Jeffries. Their lead didn't last long, with the Ooks tied it up with great drives in the paint from number seven, Ellie Wilde and a great three-point shot from eight, Lucy Wilde. However, the Queens held their lead as the Ooks were struggling defensively.
The Queens lead the game 21-11 after the first quarter over the Ooks.
In the second quarter, the Ooks struggled to defend against the Queens' offence. As the Queens continued to pull away on the scoreboard, the Ooks called a timeout in hopes of regrouping. The Ooks were picking up momentum with an incredible steal by number ten, Elizabeth Salcedo. Yet the Queens were still dominating defensively and offensively, effectively shutting down the Ooks' attempts to tie the score up.
The Queens lead the game 36-19 after the second quarter over the Ooks.
Following the halftime break, the Ooks had found new life and were finally gaining on the Queens as they struggled to defend against the Ooks' attacks from number seven, Ellie Wilde. The Queen's defence may have been struggling, but their offence kept them in the lead with excellent drives and jump-shots from number twelve, Sophie Melin. The Ooks' offence had taken off with great outside shots from number four, Jules Froment.
The Queens lead the game 56-44 over the Ooks after the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Ooks came out on fire with great moves in the key by number fifteen, Kaytlyn Poberznick, closing in on the Queens' once significant lead and were within reach of the lead as the Queens were scrambling defensively. Queens managed to keep their lead with great drives from number twenty-three Sandra Garcia Bernal. The Ooks continued to attempt to take the lead; however, it wasn't enough, and the Queens won the game.
The Queens won the game 75 -53.
