Julia Wing was recently been added to the NAIT women's Hockey roster for next season. Julie is a transfer student-athlete from the RDC Queens.
Julia was born and raised on Vancouver Island, making her the third student-athlete from the island to join the Ooks women's hockey program. The previous two have so far been great successes. Nikki Dunlop has gone on to graduate from NAIT and instruct in the PFT program while Britney Savard just finished her first season and received ACAC rookie of the year as an honours student. "I would love to see this trend continue," stated the coach, as she spoke very positively of both Dunlop and Savard. Julia has since been in Red Deer for the past two years, while her family resides in Campbell River.
Julia has an extensive hockey resume, including an ACAC championship and rookie of the year award. Growing up she took part in the U16 BC Winter Games and BC Cup, as well as the U18 BC Cup. She completed her midget hockey with the Vancouver Island Hurricanes (Midget AAA).
When asked why she chose NAIT, she responded, "I chose to come to NAIT because I would like to change the path of my education, take full advantage of the amazing support and amenities offered to their student athletes, and use them to help me grow to my fullest potential."
Coach Martin noted the fact that Julia can contribute both on forward and defense is an asset. "I think she is an athlete with a lot of potential, so we will just have to wait and see if our program can help her to find that," said Martin.
