NAIT Ooks Partner with Hockey Alberta to host the AFHL All-Star Event
This Saturday, February 3, the Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) will host their All-Star Event at NAIT. This event will showcase the top players from the AFHL bantam and midget elite divisions. "It's exciting to have 80 of the top student-athletes on our campus," said Ooks Coach, Deanna Martin. There will be a south and north team for each division, making up the four-team event.
Each team will have a session with Ooks skills coach, Joel Lenius; "Joel is outstanding when it comes to teaching skills," commented Martin. Ooks players will support these sessions.
Next, each of the teams will have a team building session, hosted by the Ooks. This is a great opportunity for the Ooks to be involved in the larger female hockey community. Being a student-athlete is more than school and athletics, it's a time for personal growth and the development of leadership skills.
The games will take place at 2:30 pm (bantam) and 5:00 pm (midget).
Coach Martin will be on site throughout the day and will present to the parents about post-secondary opportunities in Alberta and the recruitment process. Additionally, NAIT student recruitment will be on site to showcase the strong polytechnic institution.
Hockey Alberta will be holding a coach development session for all the league coaches.
CCM is an event sponsor and will be on site to showcase their product. CCM is the official equipment supplier of the ACAC.
"This should be an outstanding day. I am thrilled that Hockey Alberta extended the invite out to us. We have an opportunity to expose future prospects to NAIT; our campus, our education, our athletics program and our hockey team," concluded Deanna.
