EDMONTON- Verce Kuzelova's second-period goal would be the decider as the Ooks defeat the SAIT Trojans 2-1 Saturday night at the NAIT Arena.
Jenn Gaeckle opened the scoring halfway into the first, which would be the lone goal in the opening period. The NAIT Ooks would head to the locker room up 1-0.
In the second Karmen Mooney scored on the power play for the SAIT Trojans 15 seconds into the period to tie the game. Verca Kuzelova would responded shortly after to put the Ooks back up by one.
There would be a scoreless third period, the score would remain 2-1. Shots were 20-9 in favour of the Ooks. Megan LeBlanc was named Player of the Game for NAIT while former Ooks Davina McLeod earned the honours for the Trojans.
When asked about the team's performance NAIT head coach Stef Thomson said, "We were tired and a little sloppy, but we managed to mentally tough and hold onto the win."
NAIT will now take on their cross-town rivals the MacEwan Griffins next weekend while the SAIT Trojans will face the Olds Broncos following their upcoming bye week.
