EDMONTON, ALTA. - The Ooks failed to solve MacEwan Griffins' Sandy Heim and surrender four power-play goals in a 4-0 on Saturday night and split the weekend series.
Dominque Scheurer opened up the scoring one minute into the game with a power-play goal on a feed from Carley Jewell to put the MacEwan Griffins up 1-0 early in the game. The two teams would battle hard not giving up an inch after that until Raven Beazer scored at the 2:48 mark of the 3rd period to put the Griffins up by two. Kyrelle Skoye and Jaime Erickson would both add powerplay goals of their own late in the game to give MacEwan a 4-0 victory.
Sandy Heim made 25 saves for a shutout in the contest, while the Ooks first-year netminder Kaitlyn Slator record 29 saves on 33 shots. Both goalies would take home the Player of the Game honours.
The Ooks now fall to 4-2-0 on the season and remain in 2nd place in the ACAC while the Griffins move to 5-1 and stay in 1st atop the league standings. NAIT now has a bye week, while MacEwan will take on the Red Deer College Queens in a home and home series next weekend.
