EDMONTON, Alta. – In a close game from start to finish, the NAIT Ooks won the rematch from the night before to stop their losing streak at three and get back into the win column.
Despite the Ooks carrying the play for a majority of the first period with a couple of posts hit as well, it was only a couple of breakdowns, including two late penalties in the first period, that gave the Broncos a five-on-three powerplay and allowed Olds to carry the 2-0 lead into the second period, and all the momentum with it.
A beautiful goal in the second period by Jordan McMillan gained some momentum back for NAIT as she stripped a Bronco in their own zone and with a nice move to the backhand tucked it in behind the Olds netminder for a shorthanded goal that got the Ooks back into the game. Unfortunately for NAIT, undisciplined play once again led to a powerplay for the Broncos that restored the previous two-goal lead. A goal by Ook captain Brittney Savard brought NAIT within one going into the third period.
The third period saw some undisciplined play on both sides that resulted in a short amount of five-on-five time for the first half of the period. With about ten minutes to go, NAIT was able to tie the game on a goal by Cassidy Shandro. A massive save on a breakaway by Olds goaltender Lexi Bruce with roughly thirty seconds left preserved the tie to send the game into overtime.
A steal and finish by Jordan McMillan for her second goal of the game in the second OT completed the comeback effort by the Ooks giving them their eleventh win of the season.
The season series finishes 3-3
