NAIT Ooks women's soccer team set for another successful season.
The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team is looking to continue their reign as ACAC Champions, as they gear up for the 2017-2018 season.
Last season the women had a regular season record of 9-0-1 (1st in the ACAC North Division). They went on to win the ACAC Championship for the fifth time in the last six years. Following Provincials they fell just short of the podium at the CCAA Nationals, losing in penalty kicks during the Bronze medal game. Last season there were several individual achievements. Kassy Jajczay was named ACAC & CCAA Player of the year as well as NAIT Female Athlete of the Year. On top of that, they had 3 ACAC Conference All-Stars, Kassy Jajczay, Megan Loyns & Marissa Webb. "We had a lot of new faces last year, so it took us a while to get going. It was a solid season that offered a lot of possibilities coming into this season," said Head Coach Carole Holt when being asked about last season.
Unlike last year, the Ooks have a number of returning players this season, allowing them to start with a better understanding of how they want to play. The pre-season went very well, the players worked extremely hard, and their offseason training has proven to have paid off. The team is a collectively fit group. NAIT will be looking to return to the top of the ACAC, qualifying for the CCAA National Championship once again this year.
Head Coach Carole Holt is optimistic about the upcoming season "We are excited to see where we land. We have a more experienced team this year. They have already proven their willingness to compete in both training and games on a consistent basis. We hope to be a contender again by the end of the season and earn a spot at the ACAC Championships, to defend last years conference title."
The NAIT Ooks Women's soccer team is traveling to Camrose September 9th, to take on the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings in their 2017-2018 season opener. The home opener for the Ooks is on September 23 at 12 pm.
