The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team kicks off their season this weekend in Ft.McMurray
The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team is looking to get back to the top of the ACAC, as they gear up for the 2018-2019 season which is set to begin this weekend.
Last season the NAIT Ooks had a great regular season finishing 9-1-0 (1st in the ACAC North Division). They went on to finish second at the ACAC Championship, qualifying for the CCAA National Championship for a seventh consecutive season. At CCAA Nationals the Ooks fell just short of a medal losing to the Algonquin Thunder in the Bronze medal game. NAIT also had some individual achievements. Megan Loyns was named ACAC Player of the year, CCAA All-Canadian and NAIT Female Athlete of the Year. Kaily Mohn and Sidney Doblanko received ACAC All-Conference recognition, while Kaily Mohn and Mia Simon were named to the All-star team at the CCAA National Championships. "Our program finished fourth in the country, and we are very proud of that. Of course, we hoped we would have finished higher, but that will hopefully motivate us more in the upcoming season, said coach Carole Holt.
The Ooks have ten new players this year, which is a lot more than last year and may pose a bit more of a challenge to improve on their success from last season, but coach Carole Holt is optimistic. "We are excited about the number of new players we have this year. They have shown a real willingness to compete. Their attitude to try and improve each day has been so much fun to be around. We are still trying to get to know each other, and that will take some time, but we are very pleased with the quality we have seen so far."
The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team is traveling to Ft.McMurray tomorrow where they will take on the Keyano Huskies Sept.8th and 9th. The home opener for the Ooks is on September 16 at 12 pm where they will face the GPRC Wolves.
