COQUITLAM, B.C. - The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team fell just short in the semi-finals of the CCAA Women's Soccer Championship losing to the Champlain Cavaliers 3-2, Thursday afternoon.
The Champlain Cavaliers opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Frédérique St-Jean scored on a penalty kick. Noémi Paquin and Karima Lemire would each add a goal before halftime, giving the Cavaliers a 3-0 lead.
In the second half Ooks head coach, Carole Holt made the appropriate adjustments as her squad would begin to claw back. Yumi Ishimura scored on a penalty kick in the 50th minute to make it 3-1. Augustine Gallardo would then score a brilliant goal on a free kick in the 85th minute, bending the ball inside the post and over the keeper, cutting the Cavaliers' lead to one. Champlain would end up fending off the NAIT attack in the final minutes holding on to the 3-2 lead.
Following the match, Holt said: "We made good adjustments in the second half. To battle back from being down 3-0 says a lot about our team."
The Ooks will now take on the host Douglas Royals in the bronze semi-finals tomorrow at 10:00 AM PST.
