The NAIT Ooks women's soccer team took on the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at home on Saturday afternoon. It was a cold and rainy start to the game. The Wolves and the Ooks were within two points going into this weekend's game. It was a much-anticipated matchup as the two teams will be playing in the playoff play-in game next week, and the weekend winner gets to host. The Ooks rose above to bring home the win 5-0 against the Wolves.
Both teams started strong. It was a great back-and-forth battle, with both offence and defence playing a solid game. The goalkeeper for the Ooks, Kailey Harder, faced a couple of early shots and kept the Wolves off the game sheet. The same thing happened at the other end as Kasya Miller stoned the Ooks for the first half of the game.
The score was 0-0 at the half.
The Ooks came out strong in the second half as Rayna Hamieh hit it home in the 47th minute giving the Ooks the 1-0 lead. The Wolves tried to break out of their zone, but the Ooks kept coming. Sarah Weremczuk got the second goal for the Ooks with an assist to Toni Burse.
The Ooks didn't stop there, though. Two minutes later, it was Irelyn Spelt with the beautiful goal giving the Ooks a quick 3-0 lead. The Wolves fought back, trying to get on the game sheet, but ten minutes later, Ooks forward Rachel Kraft added another one to the home tally. Weremczuk shot an incredible buzzer-beater goal at 90:00 minutes giving the Ooks the 5-0 win over the Wolves
