EDMONTON, Alta. - The NAIT Ooks women's volleyball team defeated the GPRC Wolves in straight sets on Saturday afternoon in the NAIT Gymnasium.
The Ooks riding the momentum of a five-set win on Friday night came into the afternoon match flying high. In the first set, both teams battled back and forth, with no team owning more than a four-point lead at any time. Late in the set, the Ooks went up 20-16, but the Wolves battled back to force extra points. In extra points, after a series of service errors from both teams, it was NAIT who would eventually take the opening frame 29-27.
The Wolves responded strongly in the second set, taking an early 10-5 lead, but the Ooks battled back, bringing it to 21-21. From there it both teams fought for every point, forcing extra points yet again, with NAIT taking a two-set lead with a 27-25 victory. The third set was Ooks all the way through as they would take a 25-15 win, sweeping the match and the weekend series with the Wolves.
With the win on Saturday, NAIT finds themselves riding a four-game win streak, which has put them into the fourth and final playoff spot with two games left against the last place Concordia Thunder next weekend.
