This introductory session is designed to help participants feel more confident, aware, and prepared in everyday situations. Led by a member of the NAIT Protective Services, the session focuses on practical skills, personal safety, and prevention strategies in a supportive and respectful environment.
Participants will learn how to:
- Increase awareness of surroundings and recognize potential risks
- Use verbal communication to set boundaries and attract attention
- Practice simple defensive movements and counter-strikes using padded equipment
- Block, defend, and safely retreat from a situation
- Fall and get up safely, including basic ground defense concepts
- Use everyday items and the environment as protective barriers
The session also covers important topics such as legal considerations, mindset, and personal safety strategies to help build confidence and resilience. No experience is required, and all activities are taught at a controlled, comfortable pace with safety as the top priority.
