Sydney Hurlburt, Carly McHarg, Sean Michael-Clancey, and Hugo Cluysen all earned All-Conference honours at their respective ACAC basketball awards banquets on Wednesday.
Women's Basketball
At the ACAC Women's Basketball Championship awards banquet on Wednesday night in Medicine Hat, Sydney Hurlburt earned first-team ACAC All-Conference after another stunning season, finishing 7th in the league in points-per-game (15.3) and fourth in three-point percentage (38.5%). Carly McHarg got the nod for the second team after scoring 10.6 points-per-game with a 30% three-point percentage. The two will now lead their team into battle tomorrow as the third-seeded NAIT Ooks from the ACAC north take on the second-seeded St Mary's Lightning from the south.
The Ooks are heading into the quarter-final matchup with a 15-9 record, finishing third in the north division, after winning seven of their last ten games. The Lightning come into the tournament as the hottest team in the ACAC. After riding a twelve game winning streak to finish second in the ACAC south with a record of 16-5. The two teams will kick off their quest for ACAC gold at 8:00 PM on Thursday at Medicine Hat College.
Men's Basketball
At the ACAC Men's Basketball Championship awards banquet on Wednesday night in Camrose, Sean-Michael Clancey earned first-team ACAC All-Conference after finishing the season first in the ACAC with 26.6 points per game, and third in the league in steals with 61. Hugo Cluysen got the nod for the second team after posting scoring 17.6 points per game (10th in the ACAC). Clancey, Cluysen, and the rest of the Ooks will now prep for their opening game at the ACAC Men's Basketball Championship tomorrow when they will take on the high powered Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
The Ooks come into the tournament as the fourth seed from the ACAC north division, after a volatile season led them to a 14-10 record. The team struggled with consistency throughout the year, however showing that they have a very high ceiling, scoring over 100 points in multiple games. NAIT will need to be on their A-game as they are matched up against the 20-1 Lethbridge College Kodiaks, who finished the season as the top-ranked team in the ACAC south division. Tip-off for the quarter-final game will be at 6:00 PM on Thursday at Augustana University in Camrose.
