The NAIT Ooks and the Concordia Thunder met in the North Division Final on Saturday afternoon at the Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion in Sherwood Park. After a tough 90-minute battle, the NAIT Ooks came out on top with a 1-0 win, sending them into the championship game next weekend.
Concordia forward Sarah McClelland had a breakaway in the 20th minute of the game, but NAIT Ooks goalkeeper Kailey Harder came up with a successful challenge. Concordia wasn't giving up, though; they had a solid offensive presence throughout the first half.
At the 50th minute mark, the Thunder had a great opportunity, but NAIT Ooks Alana Mawhinney kicked the ball just before the line to keep it 0-0.
The score was tied at 0 at the half.
The NAIT Ooks came out in the second half with more offensive pressure on the Thunder. NAIT Ooks defender Rebecca Steinwand came up big with a steal to get it out of the mid-field and back into the Thunder zone.
The offensive pressure finally paid off for the NAIT Ooks in the 76th minute. Gracie Hausch picked up the goal with an assist going to teammate Ahlam Abubaker.
Concordia came back with a great chance. McClelland passed it up to Breanna Callander for the opportunity, but Harder was there for the save. Kailey Harder is the top goalkeeper in the league for goals against average.
