The NAIT Ooks are pleased to announce the appointment of Tyler Leicht as the head coach of the NAIT Ooks golf team. This exciting development marks the resurgence of the NAIT Ooks golf program, which once dominated the ACAC golf division in the late 80s and early 90s before temporarily departing from the league in 2014.
Tyler Leicht brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. A graduate of the University of Alberta, where he completed his combined Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Kinesiology, Leicht has established himself as a prominent figure in the sports industry. He successfully passed his Play Ability Test (PAT) with the Professional Golf Association of Canada and currently serves as a Golf Professional at the esteemed Derrick Golf and Winter Club in Edmonton, AB. With the upcoming season, Leicht will be entering his 7th season at the Derrick Club and his 3rd season as a PGA of Canada Professional.
At the Derrick Golf and Winter Club, Leicht plays a pivotal role in the Junior Golf Program, where he imparts his knowledge and coaches numerous junior golf classes, teams, and programs spanning the ages of 3 to 18. Moreover, Leicht actively participates in PGA of Alberta tournaments and events, relishing the competitive spirit and camaraderie that come with playing at such a high level.
Leicht is no stranger to the NAIT Ooks; he has been an assistant coach for the NAIT Ooks women's hockey team for the past two seasons, working alongside Head Coach Brendan Jensen.
"Tyler is the perfect individual to lead our NAIT Ooks Golf team back into ACAC action. He is familiar with NAIT Athletics staff and department processes, having been an assistant coach with our women's hockey program. His current position with the Derrick Golf Course brings instant credibility to our program. Tyler's passion for golf and student experiences will serve him well coaching our team at NAIT," said NAIT Director of Athletics & Recreation Jordan Richey.
Open tryouts for the NAIT Ooks golf team will commence on Friday, September 1st, at Millwoods Golf Course, with tee times beginning at 3:06 PM. Prospective student-athletes are encouraged to follow the NAIT Ooks golf team on social media to stay updated on all the action. For more information about the team or to contact Coach Tyler Leicht, please email him at tylerl@nait.ca.
Let's come together and support the Ooks golf team as they embark on this exciting new chapter.
