The NAIT Ooks men's volleyball team is poised for an electrifying 2023/24 season, filled with anticipation, a relentless quest for improvement, and a unifying team spirit. Under the guidance of Head Coach Phil Dixon, the Ooks are gearing up for a season where the stage is set for both individual and collective growth.
The season kicks off at home on Friday, October 20th, with an exciting clash against the Concordia Thunder at 8 PM. This match marks the beginning of a 19-game season that promises action, competition, and moments that will resonate with fans and players alike.
Coach Dixon candidly assessed the team's preparations and outlook as they approach the season. "Overall, we played at a high level in our preseason matches. We competed well against the three USports teams, but areas of our game were exposed that need improvement. The team is looking forward to starting our regular season at home," he expressed.
When asked about his aspirations for the season, Coach Dixon said, "We aspire to be growing continuously in our skills and execution and to stay disciplined in our approach to how we play. Staying "humble & hungry" is one of our cornerstones as we compete throughout the season."
Team dynamics are pivotal in achieving success, and the players and coaches have diligently nurtured a positive team culture. Through various off-court events and the active participation of the Leadership Group, who are engaged in the book "You Win In The Locker Room First," the team's culture and dynamic have taken shape and promise to be defining elements of this season.
While the team looks forward to the intense competition every weekend brings, the camaraderie within the group is especially something to behold. The Brotherhood is more than a term; it's a bond that drives the Ooks forward.
With eight preseason matches under their belt, Coach Dixon is confident that the team is well-prepared for their season opener against Concordia on October 20th.
