LOOK AHEAD
Another BIG weekend is on deck for Ooks sports teams, as we are now right into Championship season, except for one team finishing their regular season this weekend.
Here's what to get excited about:
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Championship Weekend is underway at Olds College, where the Ooks men's volleyball team is looking to cap their tremendous season off with the ultimate prize.
Entering with the 2nd seed in the ACAC North, the Ooks have already defeated the Lethbridge Kodiaks in a thrilling matchup that took place last night. They will be in action tonight versus the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings, with a spot in the gold-medal game on the line. The Ooks and Kings square off at 6 PM; depending on the outcome, the Ooks' match tomorrow will either be at 4 PM (bronze-medal game) or 7 PM (gold-medal game).
Best of luck to the Ooks men!
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Another chapter in the Battle of North Edmonton will be written on the court tonight as the Ooks men's basketball team heads over to Concordia University of Edmonton to take on the Thunder in ACAC Postseason action.
In the regular season, the contests between the Ooks and Thunder were tightly contested, with Concordia taking the opening match 75-69 and the Ooks responding the next night with a 72-70 victory. Concordia and NAIT also had near-identical records, with only a couple of standings points separating the two teams.
The winner of tonight's rivalry game will head north to Keyano College to take on the top-seeded Huskies on Sunday afternoon for a chance to move on to Championship weekend. Let's go Ooks!
WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The Ooks women's hockey team will close their regular season with two games this weekend versus the Lakeland College Rustlers.
Tonight's home game, their last one of the regular season, is their Senior Night and will honour several graduating student-athletes for their amazing representation of the Ooks. The six Ooks being honoured tonight are Josie Nichols, Taylor Premak, Hailey Cruickshank, Michaella Kibblewhite, Bre Martin, and Kaitlyn Slator. Puck drop will be at 7 PM, with the ceremonies taking place prior to the game.
On the ice, these two games are huge for the Ooks, as they will look to move up from their current 3rd-seed and secure home-ice advantage in the first round. Stay tuned to find out where they finish in the standings!
CURLING
This weekend is also the Championship weekend for ACAC Curling, which is in Airdrie and hosted by SAIT.
Representing NAIT at this tournament will be the Men's team, which finished conference play with a stellar 9-1 record, and the Mixed curling squad. Both are looking to finish their seasons strong in the rink of their rivals down the road.
The action gets underway today at 3 PM and will continue through the weekend. Let's go, Ooks- bring home some medals!
