The women's basketball team will be welcoming in seven new players this season.
New recruits include defensive powerhouse Aislinn Carter, and Dior Sellars, a skilled all-rounder whose shooting ability will make her a great asset to the team. Another exciting addition is Lily Jensen, who previously played for NAIT in 2021-22, where she was on the CCAA National winning team and is now returning to the Ooks.
Keanna Dewolfe, Emily Cartmell, Laura Wilson, Kaitlyn McEwen, and Halle Cahoon are other recruits and transfers who will undoubtedly add great value to the team's roster.
While it's still too soon to speak on the exact roles each new player will take on in the team, trust building is a big focus for the team in the preseason, especially with such a large influx of recruits. "We are a very team focused program. Our team has high expectations and standards," Head Coach Kiera Lyons said. "Integrating our habits and focuses is the main priority of all new players." Off the court, both team and coaching staff are an integral part of the support system for new student-athletes, who can find the rigour and demands of post-secondary athletics a challenge. Coach Lyons hopes her athletes' experience as an Ook builds their trust in their own capabilities as well and empowers them going forward in their lives.
The team will play their first regular-season game at home against Keyano College on October 25th at 6 pm.
