The men's hockey team is ready to kick off another thrilling season. According to Head Coach Scott Fellnermayr, the excitement in the arena has been palpable as the players finish their training camp, eager to see some action and start playing conference games. "The rink has been a fun place to be. Guys show up early and want to be around each other," he stated.
With twelve new players joining the team this year, the stage is set for new talent to shine. Equally important, however, will be the returning players, among them people such as Ethan Leyer, who tallied 12 goals and 13 assists last year, as well as goalies McCoy Bidewell and Ryley Osland, who were invaluable during last year's post-season run.
Coach Fellnermayr expects the competition to be tough this year but is confident his players have the drive to succeed. "Our team is hungry; I know the character in that dressing room, and our guys want to win it all this year," he stated.
The goal going into the season is to earn the first-round playoff bye weekend—awarded to the first or second-place team in the regular season—which will set the team up nicely for its playoff run. Winning the championships here would give the program its 17th win—another notch on the belt for a team that has consistently demonstrated excellence since its inception.
The men's team will hit the ice on October 18 on the road against Briercrest College at 7 pm. The home opener is on October 26th at 6 PM at the NAIT Arena.
