The women's basketball team is gearing up for an exciting season ahead. The players are eager to step on the court and show off the hard work they've been putting in over the off-season. Led by Head Coach Kiera Lyons, the squad is looking ahead to qualifying for the playoffs and competing for the ACAC Championship.
Coach Lyons anticipates the best is yet to come for her players and that the team will be in top form for playoffs in March. With a number of new faces joining the squad this year, it will take time to build trust and confidence in the system and one another. "Building trust isn't something you can rush; it takes reps and time." Coach Lyons said. "I think we will be a very different team come the second semester if we stay bought in and trust the process."
The new recruits are playing well together so far, and the environment has been a positive one for them. "It can be a struggle to find rhythm with so many new players, but we focus on recruiting athletes that we believe will fit into our culture and align with our team values and expectations," Coach Lyons stated. The integration has been helped by many of the new recruits, who are second-year transfers and have experience within the ACAC league.
The veteran members of the team have been helpful in playing a leadership role in this regard as well.
The team will hit the court for their home opener on October 25th, where they will face off against Keyano College at 6 pm in the NAIT Gymnasium.
