The badminton team is buzzing with excitement as they gear up for the upcoming season, and Head Coach Alan Chow couldn't be more optimistic about what lies ahead. With the athletes putting in the hard work, the team is focused on achieving big goals and making a serious impact this year.
"We have several individuals aiming to make their mark at provincials and medal at Nationals," Coach Chow confirmed. "That's our big goal this year – to go all the way."
After a strong performance last season, where the Ooks claimed silver in the ACAC championship, the team is ready to build on that success.
Several players also qualified for the ACAC teams at the CCAA championship, making for an exciting foundation heading into this season. Among the returning athletes are bronze medalists Noel Do and Greg Friske, who are both ready to make another push toward Nationals glory.
The squad is also adding fresh talent this year, including Ella Dolan, who just wrapped up a standout season with the golf team. Her energy and skills will certainly add a new dynamic to an already talented roster.
Team chemistry is already proving to be one of their strongest assets. The athletes are forming a tight-knit group, creating a supportive environment on and off the court that will fuel their drive to succeed.
As always, consistency will be crucial for the team's tournament success.
"The depth of our opponents is always a challenge, so maintaining consistency in performance will be crucial," Coach Chow said, acknowledging the competitive landscape they'll face.
Managing workloads and staying injury-free will also be top priorities as the team navigates the season.
With a positive, high-energy atmosphere and the team fired up for what's to come, they're ready to hit the ground running. The Ooks will take to the court for their first tournament on Sunday, November 17th, at SAIT, marking the official start of a season full of promise and potential!
