Volleyball
It was a triumphant weekend for NAIT volleyball as both the men's and women's teams secured dominant 3-0 victories over Ambrose University in their home games.
The men's team set the tone early, with each set starting off tightly contested. But the Ooks refused to let up, steadily pulling ahead with relentless intensity. Josh Watson led the charge with a stellar performance, racking up 12 kills, while Xander van Driel added 12 points to help seal the win.
The women's team also cruised to a 3-0 victory. Makenna Doyle and Rachel Mallett were unstoppable on offense, combining for an impressive 21 kills. Meanwhile, Courtney Webber anchored the defense with a remarkable 21 digs. It was a well-rounded effort that locked the win down for the squad.
Badminton
NAIT badminton players made an exciting splash at their first tournament of the season.
Om Patel showed his prowess in men's singles, battling his way to a well-earned second-place finish, while teammate Vishw Patel wasn't far behind, securing a fourth-place finish. In men's doubles, the dynamic duo of Greg Friske and Caelen Mah put up a strong fight to finish in third.
On the women's side, Ella Dolan clinched third place in singles with a solid performance, while Noel Do and Samantha Tran teamed up to take second in doubles. Anya Caingles also impressed with a strong 21-10, 21-17 win in her opening match before a narrow matchup against Dolan. She ended the tournament in a solid 7th place. Lorraine Espanso was in the running for 8th place but unfortunately withdrew from her last match.
Hockey
The men's hockey team faced a tough challenge against SAIT this weekend, falling 6-2 in both games. Despite the losses, the Ooks showed resilience. In the first match, Ethan Leyer and Tyler Blocha each found the back of the net. The second game saw Josh Hoekstra and Jackson Hassman score for NAIT. McCoy Bidewell was a standout in net, making 30 saves in game one and 18 in game two, before Ryley Osland stepped in with 15 more saves to finish the game.
Basketball
The basketball teams were in full force against Ambrose University, with both the men's and women's teams securing impressive victories.
The men's team was in top form, winning 88-66 in a commanding performance. Kohl Wedman led the way, scoring 12 points, while Peter Kugba-Nyande made his presence felt on both ends of the court, grabbing key rebounds and creating scoring opportunities for his teammates.
The women's team did equally well, securing a solid 77-67 win. Payton Neilson was a standout, putting in the work to earn 20 points for the team. The Ooks took the lead in the first quarter with a 25-17 showing and never let up, staying ahead of the opposition with strong teamwork and determination.
