Hockey
The men's hockey team had a weekend full of intensity and determination. In the first game against Concordia Thunder, they fought hard but fell 7-4. Despite the loss, the Ooks never backed down. After a 2-2 tie in the first period, the team battled to stay in it, with goals from Ethan Leyer and Ty Whitford. They pushed back again in the third with more goals from Cole Fisher and Ty Hodge, showing their resilience.
The Ooks responded with ferocity in the second game, sweeping Concordia 6-1 in a dominant display. Josh Medernach set the tone early, followed by Jackson Hassman and Ty Hodge, who continued the offensive onslaught. Ty Whitford and Evan Arnold also joined in on the action, completing the impressive win and showing the team's depth and drive.
The women's hockey team was absolutely on fire this weekend, earning two impressive victories over Lakeland College. The first game was a solid 3-2 win, where Hanna Paquette opened the scoring early, followed by Kelly Stanford and Sidney Kobi, who helped secure the win.
In the second game, the Ooks dominated Lakeland with a 3-0 sweep. Keagan Goulet got things started with a great goal, followed by Kelly Stanford's quick follow-up and Jessica Engelbrecht's third-period score to seal the victory.
Curling
The men's curling team came out strong in their season's first bonspiel, securing a 7-4 win over the Augustana Vikings. While the competition got tougher as the tournament progressed, the team showed impressive focus and grit, staying competitive throughout and making every match a challenge for their opponents.
The women's curling team, made up mostly of rookies, displayed tremendous growth and resilience throughout the tournament. Though they faced some challenges in the first few bouts, their steady improvement was clear. In their final match, they earned a solid 8-2 win over Lakeland, showcasing their potential and determination.
Basketball
The men's basketball team put up a strong fight against St. Mary's University, ending in a 95-78 loss. The Ooks kept it close throughout the first half, showing resilience. However, a challenging third quarter allowed St. Mary's to gain the upper hand. Kohl Wedman had a standout performance, leading the team with 23 points, while Peter-Aluk Deng and Antonio Benjamin made solid contributions with 14 and 15 points, respectively.
For the women's basketball team, although they faced a tough battle, they never stopped fighting. Despite the 88-35 loss, Payton Neilson and Adnee Tirao were relentless on offense, creating opportunities whenever they could. Mikah Reed and Grace Culshaw also added 6 points each, showing the team's commitment and effort throughout the game.
