The NAIT Ooks Men's Hockey team is set to celebrate a historic achievement as they raise the prestigious CCAA Supremacy Banner during their home game on Friday, January 17th. This monumental occasion will recognize the Ooks' remarkable contribution to collegiate hockey and their dominance in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) sports landscape.
CCAA Supremacy Award
The CCAA Supremacy Award acknowledges the cumulative achievements of member institutions' varsity programs from 1974 to 2024, marking the Association's 50th anniversary. NAIT OOKS' Men's Hockey team has firmly cemented its place in history with an unparalleled record of success.
- Seven National Championships (1982, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1992, and 1996), leading the nation in CCAA history.
Since their debut, the Ooks have set benchmarks in skill, dedication, and teamwork. This banner signifies decades of hard work by players, coaches, and staff, all contributing to NAIT's legacy as a powerhouse in Canadian hockey.
Celebrating 60 Years of Ooks Hockey
This year's banner raising coincides with the 60th anniversary of the NAIT Ooks Men's Hockey program, a milestone that reflects the team's enduring impact on the sport. Over the last six decades, the Ooks have produced unforgettable moments and legendary athletes who have left an indelible mark on collegiate hockey.
From Jack Braun's 12-point game in 1970-71 to Kyle Birch's record-breaking 0.65 GAA season in 2013-14, the program has continually raised the bar. Alumni like Ron Amyotte, who holds the career goals record with 85 goals, are celebrated for their contributions. Amyotte was inducted into the ACAC Hall of Fame last year along with the 1983-1987 men's hockey team.
The Ooks' 60-year journey has been defined by:
- Sixteen ACAC Championships, including impressive streaks like four consecutive wins from 1983 to 1987 and three straight from 1989 to 1992.
- A record-breaking undefeated season in 2015/16, with the OOKS finishing 36-0, a feat unmatched in collegiate hockey.
- Most Wins in a Season: 32 in 2015-16
- Most Points in a Season: 565 in 1984-85
- Most Goals in a Season: 222 in 1984-85
The 60th-anniversary celebration will feature tributes to these achievements and recognize the alumni, fans, and community members who have supported the team through the years.
