The Women's Futsal team is gearing up for an exciting new season.
Last year, they finished second in the North with an impressive record of seven wins and three losses, earning a spot in the provincial championship. However, their journey ended in the semifinals with a tough loss to SAIT, leaving them just short of a medal. This year, the team is eager to return to the field and make another push for a provincial championship appearance.
Head Coach Dheeren Govender shares his optimism for the season ahead. "Futsal is still a relatively new game for many members of our young squad," says Govender. "Our goal is to establish a program that's consistently tough to play against, game in and game out."
The team has built a solid foundation during the soccer season, which has only strengthened their cohesion and teamwork. Govender believes this foundation will translate into improved performance on the futsal court.
Despite their strong chemistry, challenges lie ahead as the season kicks off. "Our biggest challenge will be learning on the fly while competing against some very talented teams," Govender explains.
Still, he views these challenges as opportunities for growth and skill development. With a positive mindset and a commitment to teamwork, the Women's Futsal team is prepared to face any obstacles that come their way.
The season opener is set for Friday, the 17th, against The King's University Eagles.
