As NAIT's men's curling team prepares for the ACAC Championship, Head Coach Karynn Flory-Simmons has ensured a focused and structured approach to their final stretch of preparation. With a calm and supportive presence, she has guided the team through high-level training while managing external pressures with a clear, organized schedule.
"The regional tournaments have shown us just how much we've grown," says Coach Flory-Simmons. "We've seen steady improvements in both individual skills and team strategy, and each game has helped us become a stronger, more cohesive unit."
One of the team's biggest takeaways from the season has been the importance of shot tolerance and quick adaptability. Heading into championships, the Ooks have been fine-tuning their delivery techniques and making key adjustments while also developing simple cues to stay on track when challenges arise.
With strong communication and a natural chemistry on the ice, the team is in top form. Most importantly, they perform at their best when they stay upbeat and enjoy the game, which is something they'll look to carry into the provincial championship.
The Ooks will now set their sights on the goal of bringing home an ACAC title and punching their ticket to the CCAA National Championship. The top three teams in the ACAC will head to Lethbridge, Alberta, to battle it out against the best in the nation.
The first stop is the ACAC Championship hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic on February 7-9. Go Ooks!
