Basketball
Men's and Women's Basketball had their provincial championship games over the weekend, where the men took 4th, falling short to STMU in the bronze medal match, and the women to 5th in the consolation final.
The men had a hard-fought semifinal match-up against Briercrest, losing by 5 points, 93-88. They played STMU in the bronze medal match the following day, losing 105-97.
The women won against Red Deer in the consolation semifinal 77-52, and Payton Nielson put up an impressive count of 41 points. The following day, they beat Keyano in the 5/6th place match 65-56, where Mikah Reed put up four 3-pointers for the Ooks.
Hockey
Men's and women's hockey also had their first round of playoffs over the weekend, during which the men-versed CUE and the women-versed RDP.
The men won the first game of the series 5-4 but unfortunately fell short in both the second and third games, 3-4 and then 4-1. The women also won their first game but lost the last two games in their series to RDP. The Ooks won the first night 3-2, but Red Deer came back in the second game to win 3-2 and again in the game round 6-1.
Badminton
Badminton competed at the CCAA Nationals over the weekend at the King's University. Unfortunately, NAIT did not medal, but they all placed high on the rankings.
In men's singles, Smit Patel placed fifth against Wilson Paulch, winning 21-13 and then 21-9 in the second set.
Noel Do and Samantha Tran took 6th place in the women's doubles against Nihma Hussain and Addison Mcclune.
In mixed doubles, Khushi Vaniya and Davis Wong took home fourth place in a tightly contested bronze medal match.
