TORONTO, ON, - Heading into the third day of CCAA Badminton Nationals, the NAIT Ooks are in search of several medals. Eyota Kwan and Alexander Fung will play for gold in mixed doubles, while Samantha Hsu and Ivy Ung will play for bronze in women's doubles. Roymond Kim will attempt to bring home bronze in men's Singles.
Mixed Doubles
Eyota Kwan and Alexander Fung (NAIT, ACAC) finished 1 st overall in round-robin play heading into semifinals against Connie Juang and Luc-Ly Nguyen (NAIT, ACAC Wildcard) who finished 4 th overall. Poy Lo and Christine Nguyen (Seneca College, OCAA) and Victoria Duong and Desmond Chan (Humber College, OCAA Wildcard) head to the semi-finals, ranked 2nd and 3rd overall.
Fung and Kwan hold their opponents to 2 sets (21-11, 21-13) to move onto the gold medal match. Duong and Chan fought hard but fell to Ontario's gold medalists 21-11, 21-16.
Women's Doubles
Humber Hawks women's doubles team, led by All-Canadian and defending champion Chloe Rowe and teammate Susanna Quach, remain undefeated heading into the semi-finals against Fiona Purdy and Katherine Zhu (University of King's College, ACAA), who ended round-robin play with a record of 2-3 (4 TH overall). Jasleen Kaur and Johnna Rymes (Concordia University of Edmonton, ACAC) will play their provincial rivals Samantha Hsu and Ivy Ung (NAIT, ACAC Wildcard) after winning 21-8, 21-11 in round one of the championships. Rowe and Quach dominate the match holding Purdy and Zhu 2-0 (21-7, 21-9). Kaur and Rymes win 21- 12, 21-13 over Hsu and Ung and will head to the gold medal match tomorrow
Men's Singles
OCAA silver-medalist Pranav Satheesh (Conestoga College, OCAA Wildcard) leads the pack heading into semi-finals where he will play 2019 CCAA bronze-medalist Narayan Ramdhani (The King's University, ACAC Wildcard). 2019 CCAA Player of the Year Ramnish Kumar, (Humber College, OCAA) will play 2020 CCAA Player of the Year Roymond Kim (NAIT, ACAC) for a spot in tomorrow's gold medal match. In round 4, Kumar defended his title taking the match into 3 sets (21-12, 21-16, 21-15). Satheesh wins 21-13, 21-12 over Ramdhani and will make his first CCAA gold medal match appearance. Kumar will be returning to the gold medal match, winning 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) over Kim.
