The NAIT Ooks took on the RDP Kings this evening at NAIT the arena. Both teams played a hard checking game, but NAIT came out on top with a 4-1 victory.
NAIT got a chance early with a partial breakaway from Jared Legien but missed just wide. Red Deer responded shortly after with a chance of their own on the powerplay with a cross-ice pass shot by Tyler Podgorenko but was stopped by Jordan Papirny. Red Deer applied most of the pressure early, outshooting NAIT twenty-one to six in the first period.
0-0 after the first period.
Things picked up physically in the second period. This resulted in NAIT skater Ethan McIndoe taking a five-minute major for kneeing part way through the period. Red Deer could not convert on this powerplay and later took two penalties resulting in a five on three. It was then Jared Legien for NAIT scoring on that power play later to take the lead. Arik Weersink for Red Deer stood tall through that period stopping sixteen of seventeen shots that period.
1-0 after the second period.
Red Deer came with lots of pressure, getting lots of early shots, but Jared Legien ended up getting his second goal of the game to put NAIT up two goals. NAIT added to their lead again with a goal from Dylan Stewart. Red Deer finally got themselves on the board with a goal by Longjohn. NAIT then tallied an empty netter on top to win the game four to one.
The final shots of the game were 40-30 for Red Deer. The players of the game were #1 Jordan Papirny for the Ooks and #91 Mathieu Lapointe for the kings.
