The NAIT Ooks hosted their rivals SAIT Trojans on Friday night. Both teams came to play, but ultimately, the NAIT Ooks came out victorious, winning 4-1.
Midway through the first on the powerplay, NAIT threw the puck on the net, and a scramble ensued. Jaynen Rissling then found the loose puck and put it in the net to give NAIT the early one-goal lead. SAIT pushed back quickly, though, as after a three on two rush Zachary Huber got the puck in the high slot, but it was Jordan Papirny shutting the door. NAIT then doubled their lead a little while later with another powerplay goal, this time from Dalton Hamaliuk.
2-0 NAIT after one.
Halfway through the second, NAIT added to their lead with their first even-strength goal of the day from Bjorn Robinson. Shortly after, SAIT took another penalty but ended up getting a two-on-one shorthanded. Ultimately it was Jordan Papirny shutting the door on the backhand attempt to keep the game three to zero. Late in the second, though, NAIT got a two on one, and it was Brett Trentham putting home the fourth goal of the game. The next shift was SAIT answering with a goal of their own right before the buzzer scored by Zachary Huber on the power play.
4-1 NAIT after two.
The third period was a tight checked affair; No goals were scored as the goalies were sharp. SAIT was pressing late, but NAIT kept them to the outside and kept them out of the back of the net.
Final Score 4-1 NAIT. The final shots were 41 to 32 for SAIT.
Both teams look forward to the next meeting and a strong rest of the year.
