Saturday night, the NAIT Ooks hosted RDP Kings at NAIT. The game was physical, and both teams played well, but NAIT came out with the win in the end.
This one got interesting even before puck drop as both teams exchanged some words in the pregame warmup. This was setting up to be a physical contest, and it didn't disappoint. The scoring started early with RDP scoring on the powerplay with a goal from Hayden Clayton. NAIT responded with a goal of their own coming from 13 Tyler Robertson. NAIT then took the lead late in the first with a goal from Jayden Platz.
2-1 for NAIT after one.
Things opened up early in the second with three quick goals. Two of them were for NAIT from Branden Klatt and Nicholas Leyer, and one was from RDP from Tucker Scantlebury. This extended NAITs lead to two halfway through the second. Red Deer responded late, though as NAIT got into penalty trouble getting a five on three powerplay goal from Mathieu Lapointe to cut the lead to one.
4-3 NAIT after two.
The third period started with a bang as NAIT got two goals to increase its lead to three. The goals came from Colby Livingstone and Dylan Steward. RDP responded later at about the six-minute mark with a goal from Sean Michalevich. RDP responded one more time with a goal from Jantzen Leslie with the net empty, but it was too little too late as NAIT came out with the one-goal win.
6-5 NAIT final.
Both teams look to a strong end of the season in preparation for playoffs.
