The Portage Voyageurs took a voyage to the Nait Ooks home arena on Saturday night to take them on in the second game of their doubleheader. The two teams went to overtime on Friday in Portage, with the Ooks coming out victorious 4-3. It was a battle from the beginning on Saturday, as both teams still had something to prove.
The Voyageurs goalie was warming up quickly as the Ooks had 12 shots in the first period; they were testing their offensive strength, but the Portage Goalie, number 13 Coleman, stood strong, fending them off. It was four on four with only two minutes left on the clock. Both teams showed strong defense, but the Ooks were able to cut through the Voyageurs to find the back of the net late in the first period, thanks to number 11 Bryce Osepchuk.
It was 1-0 for the NAIT Ooks after the first period of play.
Both teams dumped the puck into each zone in the second period. The Ooks and Voyageurs each had their opportunities, but neither team could capitalize on their chances. The second period was scoreless, with the Ooks still ahead by one going into the third.
In the third period, the Ooks had their first power play of the game but couldn't capitalize. It was the Voyageurs' number 9, Brayden Dale, that found a way to the back of the net halfway through the second, tying up the game. Both teams fought hard in the third-period battle, but it was an overtime repeat for the teams to crown a winner. Ultimately, the Ooks came out victorious in overtime after number 17 Cale Lyons scored the winning goal.
