The NAIT Ooks men's soccer team defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 4-0 and are headed to the ACAC Final tomorrow.
CALGARY, ALTA.- The NAIT Ooks answered any doubts on Saturday as they convincingly defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 4-0. They will now advance to the ACAC Men's Soccer Championship final tomorrow, where they will face their crosstown rival Concordia Thunder at 4:00 pm on Cohos Common Field.
Matthew Zima opened up the scoring early, as he has throughout the year for the Ooks with a goal in the 4th-minute. First-year Cristian Lima doubled up the lead when he scored in the 6th minute to put NAIT up 2-0. Javier Cassie added a goal in the 43rd minute to give his team a 3-0 lead headed to halftime.
In the second half, the Ooks maintained control of the game, continuing to play shutdown defense, keeping control of the ball, only surrendering one shot on goal in the match. Matt Zima's 56th-minute tally would be the final goal of the game and give NAIT a 4-0 victory.
Ooks head coach Charles O'Toole thinks his team could still use some work "I don't think we played our best game, we could move the ball better and make better decisions, but we will take the win."
Matt Zima's two-goal performance awarded him Player of the Game honours for the Ooks, while Ben Knight was named Player of the Game for the Wolves.
NAIT will now face a familiar foe in the Concordia University of Edmonton tomorrow in the final at 4:00 pm. The Ooks have defeated the Thunder 4-0 and 10-0 this season and will look to continue their success tomorrow.
The winner of tomorrow's gold medal game will earn a birth to the CCAA Men's Soccer Championship hosted by Holland College in Prince Edward Island.
