After four games, the NAIT Ooks Soccer team remains undefeated. The NAIT Ooks beat the Lakeland Rustlers 5-0 Sunday afternoon at Edmonton Scottish.
The Ooks number nine, Ousman Maheshe, came out strong, scoring at the 9-minute mark. It was a team effort with assists going to Julio Umali and Cesar Gio Sanabria.
Both teams had strong back and forth; it wasn't until the 39-minute mark that the NAIT Ooks struck again; Matt Zima popped it in the net with the help of Cristian Lima to give the Ooks a 2-0 lead.
The score was 2-0 at the half.
The NAIT Ooks came out early in the second half, scoring right off the bat in the 46th minute. Maheshe, with his second on the day assisted by Elijah Bossio and Cristian Lima.
The Rustlers goaltender, Zach Wagner, came up big in the 49th minute to keep his team in the game. This save gave the Rustlers some momentum, Daniel Hoffmann-Brum had a big chance, but the NAIT defenders shut him down.
NAIT got the momentum back with a goal by Mario Deluca in the 68th minute. Lima picked up his second assist on the afternoon.
Two minutes later, NAIT struck again with an unassisted goal by Maheshe to give him the hat trick. He is the top scorer in the league.
The Lakeland Rustlers swapped goalies at the 70-minute mark, and Gabe Collette came in to finish off the game.
The last shot attempt by Rustlers Samuel Dosumu-Hathrobe was close but not close enough; it went just wide of the net.
The shots in the game were 24-13 in favour of the Ooks.
Both teams look forward to their next games as NAIT takes on Grande Prairie on October 2nd, and Lakeland travels back to Edmonton to play The Kings University Eagles on October 3rd.
