On a windy Saturday afternoon at Clareview Field, the SAIT Trojans defeated the NAIT Ooks to take home ACAC Gold. The final score was 3-2 after 90 minutes of play.
In the early goings, both squads traded chances. The Trojans struck first at the 19th minute mark, with a penalty kick goal from ACAC South Division All-Conference honouree Matteo Zanin. The Ooks quickly responded with a goal of their own, coming by way of Prithhib Roy at the 23rd minute mark, assisted by Luca Chinni.
The SAIT Trojans had an excellent opportunity in the 30th minute when Matteo Zanin split a pair of defenders and nearly put his team up one.
The fast paced first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
To begin the second half, the Trojans came out firing, scoring two quick goals. The first, off the foot of ACAC South Division All-Conference honouree Nicolas Gonzalez in the 53rd minute, followed by a goal from Santiago Reinosa a minute later. Both goals were assisted by Zachary Michaud.
The Ooks began to press late in the 2nd half with a goal in the 81st minute from the ACAC North Division All-Conference honouree Ousman Maheshe, assisted by fellow All-Conference member Chris Gakona.
The effort was not enough however as the Trojans were able to defend their one goal lead and capture the 2021 ACAC Men's Soccer Championship.
Both teams will represent the ACAC when the CCAA Men's Soccer National Championships get under way November 8-13th at SAIT.
