The NAIT Ooks men's soccer team kicked off against the Lakeland Rustlers at the St. Albert Soccer Association on Saturday afternoon. After a tied match between the two teams last weekend, a lot was on the line. The NAIT Ooks won 1-0 in a close battle.
The Ooks came out strong in the first half dominating offensively against the Rustlers. The Rustler's keeper, Nicholas Filipovic, was there to stop the offensive attacks and keep his team in the game.
The Rustlers came back offensively with number seven Sam Dosumu getting the ball to the net, but Ooks keeper Ethan Rochat was there to make the save.
The Ooks and Rustlers were tied at 0-0 after the first half.
The tight-knit playing from both sides made it hard for either team to find the open field, but the Ooks managed to break through with a few top-tier opportunities. Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalize on any of them. The game was at a 0-0 deadlock halfway through the second half, with both teams fighting to get on the board.
Late in the second, the Rustlers came close on a corner kick after the ball went over Rochats' head, but the Ooks were able to clear the ball.
The Ooks finally broke through at minute 83, thanks to a goal from Matt Zima. The Ooks were up 1-0. Lakeland came back with a final push but couldn't capitalize.
The players of the game were Tyson Wagner for the Lakeland Rustlers and Ethan Rochat for the NAIT Ooks.
