On Friday night, the NAIT Ooks took on the Ambrose Lions at the NAIT gymnasium.
Ooks took the lead early in the first set with great kills from number fifteen Shae McIntyre and six Daniel Ward. However, the Lions wouldn't let the Ooks go without a fight and battled back. The Ooks' defense effectively shut out the Lions with big blocks from Ooks' six, Daniel Ward, and eleven, Felix Dufour. The Lions called their first time out of the game to gain some momentum. The Lions were slowly trying to close the gap, making their way back from a five-point deficit, with some massive kills from Lions number eight Markus Canaiko. However, it wasn't enough, and the Ooks took the set 25-20, leading the match 1-0
In the second set, the Lions and Ooks were neck and neck until the Ooks broke away, leading the set. The Ooks' offense was on point with massive hits from both number nine Ross Bishop and six Daniel Ward. However, the Lions weren't out yet. They began to slowly chip away at the Ooks lead, with a great kill from number fifteen Nikita Marchenkov and some big blocks from eleven Joshua Nickel and five Noah Verhoef. Still, the Ooks were not giving their lead-up easily. With the Ooks up by five, the Lions called a time-out hoping to switch up the game. It seemed to be working with some incredible plays from number five Noah Verhoef and seventeen Isaac Karstad with the Lions, effectively closing the gap the Ooks called and time out. Though the Lions put up an incredible fight coming back from a five-point deficit tieing up the set for the first time, it wasn't enough, and the Ooks took the set 26-24, leading the match 2-0.
In the third set, the Lions took the lead for the first time in the match; however, it wasn't long until the Ooks took the lead with some massive hits from number five Carter Hills and six Ross Bishop. The Lions weren't out yet with some terrific blocks by seventeen Isaac Karstad and seven Cole Giesbrecht. The Lions tied up the set for the first time, eventually taking the lead from the Ooks. The Ooks, now behind the Lions for the first time, called a time-out, hoping to switch the momentum.
